Rally Against Manhattan Stadium

A rally took place on the west side of Manhattan against a
proposed stadium that would cost an estimated $1.5 billion
or more of public money. Numerous democratic candidates,
including Anthony Weiner and Gifford Miller spoke against
the Mayor’s pet project. At a time when transit infrastructure
is being cut, argued the opponents, and when there are many
schools in disrepair, the stadium is a bad idea. Several
speakers also noted that taxation without representation was
opposed at the time of the American revolution and should be
opposed today. The Mayor has opposed any electoral referendum
on the stadium project, perhaps because polls are running against
the idea.
